Boro and Sashiko ( Japanese patchwork ) Course – Friday 13th November

Boro is a traditional Japanese mending technique using fabric patchwork with simple decorative stitches (Sashiko) over the top. This is a one day course for adults and all are welcome, from beginners to advanced. The stitching is all by hand and is simple and easy to follow. All fabrics, threads etc will be supplied. You could make a beautiful textiles panel to use in your craft projects or bring in a garment that you would like to repair or decorate.

There will be a break for lunch so do bring some food with you, and free tea and cake will be available too.

Pattern Drafting and Clothing Design Course – Saturdays from 6th February 2027 to 6th March 2027 – (5 Weeks)

On this course you will learn how to take measurements and draft a master pattern block from scratch using your own measurements. You will make a calico toile (mock up) and learn how to adjust the block to achieve the perfect fit. Once you are happy with the fit of your toile you will learn how to adapt the master pattern to create paper patterns for a variety of garments in any style, from dresses, to skirts tops and jackets.

By the end of this course you will have several patterns that you can use again, a calico dress toile, the ability to create working patterns from your own designs,  knowledge of how to adapt those shop bought patterns that never quite fit. The confidence to customize your own clothing. This course is suitable for both beginners and advanced dressmakers. The drafting and toile construction are step by step and the pace is steady but there is also the freedom to take your ideas further if you wish.

Course runs from 10.00-16.00 every Saturday for 5 weeks
